A new app is in development to help those who suffer from Alzheimer’s or dementia. It was developed by 12 year old Emma Yang who wanted to help her grandmother. It incorporates facial recognition and reminders for the person suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. One of the examples used, which I thought was ingenious, was to ask “Are you sure you want to make this call?” after the patient has made a recent call to the same person. This would hopefully help reduce the 20 calls a day made to their family member or trusted adviser of 20 years. When I did an app search to see what else was available in this genre, I found fundraising apps, brainteaser apps, dealing with Alzheimer’s as a caregiver apps, but nothing for the actual sufferer of Alzheimer’s or dementia to cue them on their smart phone. This app would be helpful in the initial stages of the disease process when they can still use their smart phone. Hopefully we will see Emma’s “Timeless” app available for download soon.
